guthrie center schoolToday marks the end of an era in Guthrie Center.

Today is the last official day of existence for Guthrie Center High School. The new fiscal year begins tomorrow, and with it brings the beginning of a whole-grade sharing agreement between the Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center community school districts, and the creation of AC/GC High School.

Superintendent Steve Smith says the district is busy preparing both the curriculum and physical aspects of AC/GC High School for its first school year. “We have some banners up in the gym that will need to look different. We have a plan to get those up in a way that I think will enhance the look of the gym. We’ll have new wall mats, as well, and those are the main things in getting ready for the physical part of the transformation.”

Perhaps the biggest transition will take place during the fall semester of the school year, when longtime high school principal Gerald Thomas prepares to pass the torch of leadership to Activities Director and former middle school principal Shane Arp, before Thomas retires in December.
