The Jefferson Police Department will once again participate in the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau’s upcoming “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Iowa has had 154 fatalities on the road this year, which is up 31 or 25 percent from this time last year. However, the Iowa Department of Transportation reports that there were no fatalities over the three-day 4th of July holiday last year on Iowa’s roads.

State and local law enforcement, including the Jefferson Police Department, will be increasing their efforts to eliminate drunk drivers and reduce speeding to protect everyone for the upcoming special Traffic Enforcement Program from July 1st through the 5th.
