A Lake City man was killed in a one vehicle accident in Guthrie County Friday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, at 3:17pm, 69 year-old Robert Core of Lake City was traveling north on Frontier Road, south of Highway 44 in Guthrie County on a closed road for resurfacing, when his 2003 Buick Lesabre hit a pile of gravel in the northbound lane. The Buick then came to a rest in the south ditch facing northwest.

Core was awake and conscious following the crash and was transported by helicopter to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, where he later died.

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s office assisted at the scene.
