Jefferson Police BadgeA Bouton man faces felony charges from the Jefferson Police Department for passing counterfeit money at a business.

Police Chief Mark Clouse says an investigation began on April 4th of a report about three $50 counterfeit bills that were used at Sparky’s One Stop at 606 Highway 30 in Jefferson. Sparky’s staff made a deposit to their bank and bank officials caught the counterfeit bills. Clouse notes that Sparky’s contacted the police. He says they reviewed surveillance video of the business and were able to identify the individual who is believed to have used the fake money.

Thirty-eight year-old Jerimy Joseph Godwin is charged with a Class D Felony for forgery. Clouse adds that Godwin has also been linked to similar incidents in the Des Moines area.
Jefferson Police have issued an arrest warrant for Godwin.
