A Jefferson man was arrested for allegedly stealing money from a dependent adult.

According to court documents, an investigation began with the Jefferson Police Department in November of 2024, when an Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Case Worker notified police about the alleged wrongdoing. The investigation showed that 48-year-old Jeremy Fister stole $34,052 from a dependent adult who is living in a nursing home and who he had power of attorney for.

Court documents show that the HHS Case Worker found out that Fister was transferring money from the victim to his account, of which he gave the case worker access to those accounts, but tried to minimize the amounts. At the conclusion of the case worker’s report, HHS marked it as “founded” and when Fister and the victim were questioned about it, the victim did not realize this was going on. The first transaction noted in the court documents was in December of 2022 and the final transaction was in August of 2024.

An arrest warrant was issued on May 20, 2025 charging Fister with a Class B Felony for ongoing criminal conduct and a Class D Felony for dependent adult abuse. He was arrested on June 2nd and was booked and released from the Greene County Jail after posting a $30,000 surety bond. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
