The banners in Guthrie Center may look a little different now than they have before.

Main Street Guthrie Center Director Lindsay Gilland says that this is because of their Hometown Heroes Banner Program. She mentions that these banners were purchased through the organization by the families of veterans, and were put up for Memorial Day. Gilland tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the banners will stay up through Veterans Day in November, and then something special will happen.

“After it has come down, the families actually will all receive their banners and those banners will be theirs to keep. And we really hope that this is a way that we can, again, honor all of the men and women that serve that are right here from our very own hometown.”

Gilland explains that the program started this year, and that they hope to continue it in the future, so that they can keep honoring veterans and service members in this special way.
