Tonight is the 3rd Annual Greene County Fine Arts Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
The event takes place with a reception at 6pm in the high school commons area, followed by the actual ceremony at 6:30pm in the auditorium. Greene County School District Activities Director David Wright says there are five individuals being inducted tonight, with the first being a 1971 Jefferson High School graduate with Dick Oatts, who was a three-year All-Stater on two different musical instruments and went on to be part of 120 albums.
Wright points out the next inductee is a 1998 Jefferson-Scranton High School graduate Katy (Von Ahsen) Gordon, as he talks about her fine arts accomplishments while in high school.
“According to, what we’ve been able to research anyway, was the first four-year All-Stater, at that time in Jefferson-Scranton history, in speech. So she made All-State in all four years of her high school career, in which she was the first one. She had six All-State individual nominations and was part of one large group, so pretty impressive there.”
Wright states that the third inductee is Carl Rowles, who graduated from Jefferson-Scranton in 2005 and was a three-time All-Stater in choir, followed by 2010 J-S graduate with Katie Rice. Wright points out that Rice was a two-time All-Stater on clarinet. He says the final inductee is David (Peterson) Ayala, who graduated in 2016, who was a three-time All-State vocalist and will be part of the Hall of Fame as a visual artist.
Tonight’s ceremony is free and open to the public.
