The Greene County High School Music and Theater Departments have once again received several recognitions for their spring musical.

According to Choir Director David Heupel, six awards were announced by the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards, sponsored by EMC Insurance Companies, for their production of “The Little Mermaid.” Daniele Madsen earned the Outstanding Achievement in a Principal Role in her character as Ursula, and Heupel points out that she will also get to perform an excerpt at the awards showcase. Hailey Carman, William Graham, and Lucy Vander Linden each were honored with a Special Recognition in a Principal Role for their characters of Ariel, King Triton and Flounder, respectively.

Additionally, Heupel says another award was given for Distinguished Scene with “Poor Unfortunate Souls.” Finally, he states that Madsen will also get to compete in the Triple Threat Award program, where she will get to audition for a theater camp scholarship to attend the Jimmy Awards or to the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City.

The IHSMTA Showcase will be at the Des Moines Civic Center on Thursday, May 29th at 7pm. Tickets will be available starting May 16th at the Des Moines Civic Center Ticket Office.
