Greene County 4-H’ers that want to show sheep or goats at this year’s county fair or the Iowa State Fair must attend the weigh-in event this Saturday.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Sheep and Goat Weigh-In will be happening from 7:30-11am tomorrow at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson. She points out that while there is a $5 per animal charge for rental imaging for 4-H’ers that are showing their sheep or goat at the Iowa State Fair, there is no cost for the ear tags.

“There is no cost for ear tags, we’re really grateful. The Greene County Lamb Producers sponsor the cost of sheep ear tags and Shahan Club Lamb sponsor the cost of goat ear tags. So there’s no cost to the family on that.”

She notes that those 4-H’ers that are involved in the Community Lamb Barn Project must get to the fairgrounds by 10am for their weigh-ins. Hardaway adds that even though this is a come and go activity, she asks for everyone’s patience as they move as quickly as possible to get people in and out.
