The Greene County Historical Society is highlighting the anniversary of one of the iconic parts to the ending of World War II with a program.
According to the historical society, Iowa State University Assistant Professor of History Jeff Bremer will give a presentation about Iowa’s wartime effort as he details in one of his chapters of his most recent book, “A New History of Iowa.” Organizers say Bremer talks about stories of Iowans joining the military service, going to work in the munitions plants, growing victory gardens and millions of bushels of corn, among other ways.
Museum Program Director Margaret Hamilton says that they wanted to have Bremer do this program on Friday because it is close to May 8th, known as Victory in Europe on May 8, 1945. The program is free and it starts at 12:45pm at the Churdan Public Library. A meal will be served at noon and it will be prepared by the library staff. The meal costs $12 and a reservation must be made by tomorrow by calling 515-386-4408.
