The deceased victim has been identified and new information has been released in an ongoing murder investigation in Greenfield.
According to court documents, 39 year old Yudiel Vega-Blanco of Fontanelle allegedly stabbed and killed Carlos Escalona after becoming upset and assaulting another individual in a residence on the 200 block of Northeast 4th Street in Greenfield at 12:45am on April 19th. Law enforcement found Escalona’s body after first responders were with him before being pronounced dead at the scene. Court documents show that the other injured individual had a laceration on the stomach, before Vega-Blanco allegedly stabbed Escalona. Court documents show that several other witnesses also interceded and were able to get the knife away from Vega-Blanco until law enforcement arrived and took him into custody. Vega-Blanco was transported to the Adair County Jail by responding officers from the Greenfield Police Department and other agencies.
Vega-Blanco has been charged with murder in the first degree, a Class A Felony, and willful injury – causing bodily injury, a Class D Felony. An initial court date has been set for April 28th at 11am, and Vega-Blanco’s bond has been set at a cash only $1,000,000. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring more information as it becomes official.
