A band that was supposed to play in Perry back in February will be making an appearance in the community tomorrow.

Perry Fine Arts Chairperson Cathy Clark says that Jake Doty and The Swensongs are performing a free concert. She outlines the group is made up of four members with Lead Singer and Acoustic Guitar player Jake Doty; Electric Guitarist, Keyboard Specialist, and Violinist Dave Swenson; Double Bass player Austin Lutes-Swenson; and Drummer Paul Navara.

Clark highlights that all four members went to college at Luther, as Swenson and Navara attended in the 1970s and Lutes-Swenson and Doty were classmates in the early 2000s. She illustrates the public reception has been phenomenal for the 2024-25 concert series.

“We have had several really large audiences, which is really, really exciting. One of the largest was the Greater Des Moines Community Band, and that was super fantastic. And also The Weary Ramblers were very very well attended, so I’m hoping that people are getting the word out that we are a good place to come and spend a Sunday afternoon.”

Tomorrow’s show for Jake Doty and The Swensongs is taking place at the Perry Performing Arts Center, 1200 18th Street, at 2pm for free.
