Well before any stormy weather arrived in Des Moines, the weather was some of the best of the season and athletes at the Drake Relays took advantage on Thursday.

Carter Morton, a fifth year senior at the University of Northern Iowa, and 2020 Greene County High School graduate finished second in the men’s decathlon with a career best 7.882 points. That total is also the new UNI school record, and he set multiple personal bests among the 10 events of the decathlon between Wednesday and Thursday. The winner was a 2024 Olympian from Germany, now competing for Nebraska. Morton is redshirting this outdoor season, so he competed at Drake unattached, wearing a Power Lift uniform top.

On the high school level, sophomore Trevon Keely of Paton-Churdan tied for ninth place in the high school boys’ high jump on Thursday. Opening height was six feet, two inches, which he cleared on his first attempt. He cleared 6′ 4″ on his second attempt, then missed all three tries at 6′ 6″.

Greene County senior Isaac Carman throws the discus today. Carman is the lone Ram, male or female, to qualify for the Drake Relays this season.
