Construction of L Avenue relocation project in Boone County

The Iowa Department of Transportation is conducting two projects on a major highway in Boone County that will impact travel for several people.

Jefferson Resident Construction Engineer with DOT Jenny Hoskins says a current project is removing an existing connection on US Highway 30 and L Avenue, and building a new connection that is located further to the east. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio, a new median crossing and left turn lane are being constructed for the eastbound traffic on the highway, along with grading for the new connection.

Hoskins notes that once paving is complete for that portion of the project, traffic will be opened and then the current connection will be closed. Then, she says the contractor will finish the extension of the left turn lane for the westbound traffic and will remove some of the existing median crossing. The current intersection will be reduced to eliminate westbound to northbound traffic and will no longer allow northbound traffic to cross four lanes of traffic to continue north. Traffic is currently reduced to one lane for a portion of the roadway in the project area. She states that the total project cost was $1,943,684 and Con-Struct, Incorporated is the contractor, and they anticipate the project to be completed by mid-August.

Hoskins adds that the other project is a re-paving of Highway 30 from Ogden to the Boone/Greene County line with 5.5 inches of concrete, which will require a full closure of the roadway and will not start until June 16th. She says the project will also include a left turn lane for eastbound traffic at the intersection with Highway 169 north. The total project cost was $6,892,425 and Manatt’s Incorporated is the contractor.
