An important step in preparing for the Iowa State and Guthrie County Fairs is coming up.
Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Youth Coordinator Rachel Muir says that they are hosting their sheep and goat weigh-in this Sunday. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why it’s important for exhibitors in these events to attend the weigh-in.
“Any youth showing sheep and goats in Guthrie County can bring their animals and we’ll help them get it tagged. All market (breeds) are required to come because we have to weigh them in and set that specific weight for the county fair. And then if they are planning on going to the Iowa State Fair, they will need a retinal image. So that just covers all the bases.”
Muir mentions that the weigh-in will be from 1-3pm at the sheep and goat barn on the Guthrie County Fairgrounds. She adds that all those planning to be exhibitors in sheep and goat events must participate, although if for some reason the date does not work, you may contact her to discuss different options.
