The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is observing National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is also taking part.
According to Sheriff Adam Infante, the day allows people to stop by local law enforcement agencies to deliver unused or expired prescription medications. He details that agencies will then collect those items from people and turn them over to the DEA. Infante expounds on the goal behind the matter.
“A big part of this is that they don’t want these pills to get in the hands of people who are going to abuse them. And they don’t want people flushing them down the toilet. It’s bad for the water treatment facilities and just not generally a good thing to do, so it’s a good way for people to dispose of these things properly, for free, and easily.”
Infante reveals that the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, 28985 Thin Blue Line, in Adel will be a drop off destination for people to bring either unneeded or expired prescriptions this Saturday from 10am-noon. He adds that people will need to enter through the front doors, then will be greeted by a deputy who will discard medications.
Infante encourages people to leave the medications in their regular containers and not put them in a plastic bag. He outlines that prescription and over the counter medications are allowed, while illegal substances will not be accepted.
