A quick thunderstorm warning for Greene County resulted in varying sized hail.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northwestern Greene County at 8:16pm. The Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team interrupted normal programming on KGRA 98.9FM to provide live coverage of the storm. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reported seeing pea-sized hail from the Jefferson area, north to the Churdan area, and then Churdan experienced ping pong ball sized hail later on. He also mentioned there was lots of rainfall and 40 miles per hour winds were the strongest during the storm all across the county. The National Weather Service ended the warning at 8:40pm.
There were four Raccoon Valley Radio staff, along with Williams and Weatherology Metrologists that provided coverage. Whenever severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings are issued for Adair, Greene, Dallas or Guthrie Counties, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team brings live coverage until the storms drop below severe levels or move out of the area.
