A classic musical number that many have enjoyed over the years makes its way to Guthrie Center this weekend.
Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center Vocal Director Kelsey Dinkla says that the community is invited to the high school Friday through Sunday for three performances of “The Sound of Music.” For any who may not know, the musical is based off the film of the same name, following the journal of a nun hired to be a governess for a family’s seven children. Dinkla tells Raccoon Valley Radio more on the premise of the performance.
“It takes place in kind of a not so great time in history. It’s Austria, pre-German occupation. And basically what happens is this family is going to perform at this concert festival and then essentially escapes over the mountains and into Switzerland to avoid all of the really terrible things that were to come.”
Dinkla mentions that 15 minutes before each performance, the children who auditioned for the musical will have a performance as well. She adds that on Friday and Saturday performances will be at 7pm, with Sunday’s performance set for 2pm. Doors will open half an hour before the performances, with tickets available at the door for $8 for adults and $5 for students.
