The next act in the Perry Fine Arts 2024-25 season is coming up on Sunday, with a group that was supposed to perform a few months ago.
According to Perry Fine Arts Chairperson Cathy Clark, Jake Doty and the Swensongs will be in town to put on a free concert. She describes the group as having an array of music from classic rock, pop, and country. Clark notes the band consists of four members, with Jake Doty on acoustic guitar and lead vocal; Dave Swenson plays the electric guitar, keyboard, and violin; Austin Lutes-Swenson is on the double bass; and Paul Navara is the drummer. She reveals that all the members are connected through their college years.
“Paul (Navara) and Dave (Swenson) played in the jazz band at Luther during the (19)70s. Thirty years after Paul and Dave were at Luther, Jake (Doty) and Austin (Lutes-Swenson) were classmates at Luther College. Jake was very active in choral groups and playing the guitar, and singing in many events in the Decorah area. Austin played the double bass in the symphony and the electronic double bass in the jazz band at Luther.”
Clark details the band was supposed to perform in February, but due to winter weather, it was pushed back to this Sunday. She is hoping that everyone who is able to join will come out and enjoy the concert. The show is taking place for free at the Perry Performing Arts Center, 1200 18th Street, on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.
