Greene County had its soccer teams in action on Tuesday. Coach Chad Black’s boys hosted Winterset at Linduska Field in Jefferson while Coach Wes Anderson and the girls were at Van Meter.
Coach Chad Black’s boys’ improved to 5-1 with a 6-1 non-conference win over the Huskies, who fell to 2-7-1. Junior Frnaklin Regalado scored three goals with one each by juniors Fredy Aguilar and Carter Hinote, and sophomore Ethan Carstens. The Rams were up 2-0 at the half, then led 5-0 before the two teams each scored once down the stretch.
The Rams lost a player to a red card in the first half on what Coach Black explained as a DOGSO (denial of obvious scoring opportunity) penalty. “This was a hard fought game with a man down for over a half. Overall, it was a great effort with a man down.”
The VM girls won 10-0 two minutes into the second half after the Bulldogs led 8-0 at the half. The Bulldogs improved to 6-4 while the Rams fell to 0-7. The Greene County coach told Racccoon Valley Radio that goalkeeper Lucy Vander Linden had another stellar game with 12 saves. He added, “Our midfield and forwards (Leah Mc Cormick, Randa Linberg, London Harris, Autumn Barrett, Amelia Gallagher, and Nala Losee) orchestrated five attacks into Van Meter territory, which resulted in one shot from Autumn Barrett. I can’t remember another match where we’ve spent that much time on Van Meter’s side of the field! Also, Natalie Towers had a game-changing performance as a defender, making several key tackles as soon as she went in.”
Both teams are scheduled to play tomorrow. The girls have action scheduled in State Center vs. Central Iowa United hosted by West Marshall. The boys are scheduled to host Des Moines Christian at Linduska Field in Jefferson.
