The Adel Public Library is traveling back in time with a program that will teach kids about a prominent historical event.
The library is welcoming children in first through fifth grade to embark on a “Titanic Tea Party” tomorrow afternoon. Programming Specialist Lily Schwarz shares that each kid will be matched with a historical figure that was on the Titanic, learn the tragic events that occurred as well as why it is revered as one of the most important pieces of history, plus engage in some fun activities. She explains how the program came about.
“Every kid I’ve ever met has an obsession with the Titanic. A really popular series in the library is the “I Survived” series. So, “I Survived the Titanic” is one of our most popular ones, there’s constantly a hold on it, and so I was just browsing what other libraries were doing and this popped up, and I was like, ‘Boy, do I have the audience for that.’”
Schwarz notes the children attending under eight years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. She adds that the program is free, but registration is required and will be held from 4-5pm in the common area. For more information, contact the Adel Public Library at (515)-993-3512.
