The Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center School Boards met in regular session last Wednesday.

Superintendent Josh Rasmussen says that both Boards held a public hearing on the proposed 2025-26 budget, along with the AC Board holding a public hearing on a roofing project at AC Elementary, with no written or oral comments for either. He continues that they were then shown a presentation by AC/GC High School senior Belle Fagan on the senior class trip to Washington DC, before discussing the AC Elementary roofing project, elementary literacy curriculum and the high school master schedule for next year.

Rasmussen tells Raccoon Valley Radio that as they moved on to the action items, the 2025-26 budget was adopted.

“Both AC and GC school boards set their certified budget, which really our tax rate did not move much in either district. AC for fiscal year 26 will be at $9.85 per thousand dollars of taxable valuation and Guthrie Center will be at $12.45. And then we went ahead and approved our senior graduates for this year. It’s hard to believe, but we’re going to have commencement here this next month.”

Rasmussen mentions that other joint action items included approving tentative agreement/staff salary increases, winter coaching contracts, certified and support staff contracts and administrative/other contracts all for the 2025-26 year. He adds that they also approved the adjusted 2024-25 school calendar, noting that students would still finish on May 23rd, while teachers would come back for two days after memorial day to make up their contracted hours due to the two snow days this winter.

Rasmussen explains the Boards jointly tabled a decision on the 2025-26 employee benefit program. He continued that the AC Board approved the plans, specifications and formation of a contract for the AC Elementary roof project, but that they tabled awarding the contract until they had some more information, and approved a mowing bid. The GC Board approved selling the current old wooden baseball bleachers and purchasing new aluminum ones, and updating some unit ventilators and condensing units at the high school.
