The Perry boy’s soccer team sits at 3-2-2. Coach Overla’s squad has seen one of the new rules affect them multiple times in early season matches.  The IHSAA and IGHSAU eliminated overtime from regular season contests.  In the past, if a game was tied after 80 minutes two overtime periods would be played until someone scored.  If the match remained tied, Penalty Kicks would decide a winner.  Now at the conclusion of 80 minutes a tied game ends in a draw.  The Perry coach told Raccoon Valley Radio he’s not a big fan of the new rule.  “Obviously, it’s changing the game and I’m not necessarily sure if it’s for the better.  You’re going to have a lot of teams that are going to be going into overtime periods in substate playoffs completely out of sorts because they haven’t played in overtime period all year.

Coach Overla is in his 26th season as Perry’s head coach.  In his first 25 years, he suffered one draw.  He has already seen two this season.  The Bluejays take the pitch tomorrow as Marshalltown comes to Dewey Field.
