Severe weather made its way through part of the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area Thursday night.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued by the National Weather Service for southern and southwestern Adair County beginning at 9:12pm, and Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team was activated and brought live coverage of the storms. Rain and strong winds were noted throughout the area, and the weather soon was moving along the Highway 92 corridor.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeremy Cooper reported seeing golf ball sized hail between Bridgewater and Fontanelle, along with a wall cloud with slight rotation. He also noted that the pocket of hail was staying south of Interstate 80.

The severe thunderstorm watch was lifted at 10pm, and a new one was enacted for northeast Adair County, which lasted from 10-10:45pm. Some weather also made its way through Dallas County, as National Weather Service Meteorologist Ashley Bury stated that there was no hail or property damage, and she said there was about three quarters of an inch to one inch of rain in Perry and the surrounding areas.

Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team brings live coverage any time there is a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning in Adair, Greene, Dallas or Guthrie Counties. Live coverage continues until the storms move out of the area or drop below severe levels.
