In the world of wrestling clubs in the United States, the Premier National League (PNL) stands out. Within that level, Sebolt Wrestling Academy of Jefferson won last weekend’s PNL Freco Spring Championships Tournament in Kenosha, WI in Freestyle and was seventh in Greco. The name Freco is a combination of two wrestling styles, Freestyle and Greco-Roman.

Head coach and owner TJ Sebolt told Raccoon Valley Radio the overall team scores are a combination of two divisions- 16 & under Division, and Jr. Division, which primarily is juniors and seniors in high school. He added the PNL is a league of elite wrestling clubs.

Johnathan Thompson of Grand Junction, an eighth grader at Greene County Middle School in Jefferson, won first place in both Freestyle and Greco in the 16U 88 lbs. weight class. Thompson was joined by eight other gold medal winners from SWA in Freestyle, including Fort Dodge’s Dreshaun Ross, a high school junior who has committed to wrestle at Oklahoma State University. Ross is a three-time Iowa high school champion with one year left as a Dodger.

SWA was started in 2011 and moved to Jefferson in 2020.
