A special event is taking place this weekend where some visitors on horseback are coming through the Greene County area.

Petra Dawson is the Chair of the Greene County Pony Express Riders of Iowa and says the Pony Express Rider Ride Weekend is taking place tomorrow and Saturday, where youth are riding horses to Camp Sunnyside. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio the mission of the Pony Express Riders of Iowa is to raise funds in support of Camp Sunnyside to financially help individuals with special needs that are with a non-profit organization in Des Moines.

Dawson explains that riders will be coming through the downtown square in Jefferson between 3pm and 4pm and they will be camping overnight at the Greene County Fairgrounds before heading out early Saturday morning at 7am to continue their pilgrimage to Des Moines. She invites everyone to the square tomorrow to cheer on the horse riders as they arrive in town. She adds for motorists to be aware of the horse riders on the roads and allow for space as they travel into and out of Greene County and the surrounding area.
