The Guthrie County Conservation Board and Panora Public Library are working together on a project for families and youths.

Conservation Director Brad Halterman says that the two groups have joined forces to install a Story Walk along the Raccoon River Valley Trail in Panora. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that a Story Walk is a series of signage posts that display pictures and pages from a book, which tells a story that is usually geared toward younger children, but that the reading difficulty can be changed as needed or wanted. Halterman shares where the signs will be installed.

“The Story Walk will be looking at putting it out on the Raccoon River Valley Trail, right where our parking lot is, there by the Pedal-In in Panora. And the story walk will take you south down the trail halfway and then back up the trail the other half. So it ends basically where you started. It’ll be right around a half mile long.”

Halterman mentions that as individuals or families follow the series of signs, they will be able to read the story in its entirety. He adds that the story panels will be updated on a regular basis, allowing those using the trail to read multiple stories while also getting in some exercise.
