Greene County Medical Center recently announced a new service that will be available soon.

According to the medical center, the new Wound Care Clinic will open on May 5th and the staff has partnered with Healogics, which is the nation leader on wound care providers that’s mission is to “Find. Treat. Heal” chronic wounds for patients. Providers will include Certified Physicians Assistant Kaitlyn Bravek, Registered Nurse and a Certified Wound Care Nurse Karlee Hines, and Registered Nurse Katie Nelson have all been trained in the advanced techniques and evidence-based practices that focus on assessment, diagnosis and management in a wide variety of wounds.

CEO Chad Butterfield talks about the recent decisions to add certain types of services, including having visiting providers from other facilities, to make it convenient for patients in the community.

“We are constantly trying to look at services that we can bring to the community so that not everything has to be a trip to Ames, Carroll, Des Moines, (or) Fort Dodge for services. Those relationships really end up helping Greene County Medical Center and the community of Greene County within health care.”

Bravek says they will give a thorough check on a patient’s wounds and their overall health when they visit the clinic, and they could also conduct blood work, wound cultures or imaging studies to determine if there are underlying causes or conditions that are impacting a patient’s healing response time to a wound. Hines will be the Case Manager and Wound Care Nurse in the new clinic that is located on the second floor of the medical center. Types of services that will be provided include diabetic, pressure, venous stasis or arterial ulcers, as well as surgical or traumatic wounds. The Wound Care Clinic will also provide a variety of treatments such as debridement, infection control, specialized dressings or bandages, compression or negative pressure therapy, nutritional counseling and patient education.

Patients are recommended to consult with their primary care physician for a referral to schedule an appointment in the Wound Care Clinic. For more information about the new service or to schedule an appointment, call them at 515-386-0500.
