The start of the spring turkey hunting season is underway in the state.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Aron Arthur says the first of four spring turkey seasons is this week and he gives reminders to the hunters that want to participate this time of year.

“Make sure you get your hunting license, your habitat fee, and then of course a turkey tag. You can have one turkey tag as a hunter, a resident hunter, for season one, two or three. And then if you want a second tag, you can get a second tag for season four. Or you could choose to get an archery tag, which runs the whole entire from season one through season four, and that’s an archery only. So that allows you if you’re an archery hunter, it’ll give you more time to get out there, a little harder to shoot a turkey that way, but you can get more time in the field there.”

Arthur advises everyone the times that hunters are allowed to shoot a turkey are one-half before sunrise to sunset on the designated days. Season one is April 14th-17th, with the final season happening from April 30th to May 18th. Click here for more information about the spring turkey hunting seasons.
