A Scranton woman who was to be on trial this week for an alleged incident that took place in October 2024, was declared a mistrial and is in jail under a $1 million bond.

According to court documents, a jury was being selected for the trial of 27-year-old Conner Groves, who is accused of burning down a home, reporting false information to the insurance company and theft from the October 2nd incident in Churdan. Court documents show that during jury selection, a potential juror said that Groves approached them before the trial in a bar over the weekend, saying that Groves knew they were part of the jury pool and attempted to persuade the individual to vote not guilty.

Count documents show that after District Court Judge Kurt Stoebe granted the motions by Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn for the pretrial release violation and for the mistrial, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, where the potential juror said Groves made several attempts and pleaded with them to make sure that they get on the jury and to acquit her of the charges.

According to court documents, a warrant was issued and Groves was arrested at her home in Scranton Tuesday evening and she was booked into the Greene County Jail and remains there under a $1 million cash only bond. The alleged incident that happened Tuesday remains under investigation. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
