One non-profit organization is celebrating family pets with an Easter-themed event in Jefferson.
People for Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) of Greene County is hosting the second annual Doggie Easter Egg Hunt at the Rotary Centennial Dog Park near the Community Animal Shelter in Jefferson this Saturday at 1pm. According to the organization, there will be several plastic eggs scattered throughout each of the large and small dog parks that are filled with home-baked healthy dog treats. Organizers say each canine will receive a participation treat and special prizes are in store for the dogs that sniff out the golden eggs.
Registration fee is $5 per dog and PAWS President Ann Wenthold says over $100 was raised at last year’s inaugural event. She remembers that the parks were messy due to rainfall in the morning, but that the dogs and their owners had a fun time. She points out that the proceeds will be used toward the care and treatment of the animals at the shelter. Wenthold notes PAWS also pays for veterinary bills for all animals in their care at the shelter, along with purchasing any monthly medications and microchipping of animals that are in their care and don’t have one.
Other rules for the Doggie Easter Egg Hunt is that all participating canines must be on leashes during the event for better safety and a rain date is the following Saturday.
