The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday morning.

The Board approved to deny a change to the employee handbook regarding allowing part-time workers bereavement leave, along with the quarterly report from Veterans Affairs Coordinator Beth Watson. Then, they heard department updates from Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman and Guthrie County Health Services Director Jotham Arber. In Halterman’s update, he shared that the conservation department had received a legacy grant from Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation, allocating $125,000 per year for four years for a total of $500,000, which would be used towards helping fund replacement of a portion of the path on the Raccoon River Valley Trail. Arber’s update included that they were nearly finished with renovations at the Public Health building, and that they would begin a marketing push at the end of the month.

The Board then discussed the draft of a survey permit ordinance. In a public comment period for the ordinance, Summit Carbon Solutions representative Brent Nees shared that survey laws ultimately are under Iowa Utilities Commission purview, and that this ordinance was similar to one adopted by Bremer County that was met with a lawsuit. After the public comment period, the first reading of the ordinance was approved, with the second and third readings waived, and the ordinance was adopted. The Board then tabled a decision on County health insurance renewal until next week, as there was nothing for them to review at this time.
