The Dallas County Conservation Board is inviting people to an outdoor program on Friday to enjoy the spring season.
The board is hosting an Early Spring Ephemeral Hike at Sportsman Park, 13821 130th Street, in Dawson Friday afternoon. According to Naturalist Allison Dittmer, spring wild flowers are in bloom for a short period of time, which is where the term “ephemeral” comes from. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio what she’s hoping to see on the journey.
“Hopefully some diverse wildflower species that are popping up. The warmer it gets, the farther into the year we get, the more species that we get. So I’m thinking with the sunshine that we’ve had this week, we’re hoping to have quite a few flowers.”
Dittmer notes that the hike will take place on a dirt trail and recommends wearing clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty in. She adds that there won’t be a fee to participate, but people should register beforehand. The hike will be happening on Friday from 2:30-3:30pm. For more information and to sign up, click here.
