Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School is putting a spin on a classic story for their spring play this weekend.
According to Drama Director Molly Longman, the school is presenting “The Dream,” which tells a fresh and modern reimagining of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” She describes that the premise of the story sees a group of high school students rehearsing for their Shakespearean gala, but following a set of circumstances, they are pulled into a fantasy world of romance, mischief, and magical transformation. Senior Mackenzie Evans, who’s playing Titania, The Queen of the Fairies, reveals that her outward appearance is helping her embody her character.
“I think honestly just with these dress rehearsals, just getting into costume has helped me just kind of channel the character. And kind of just reading over my lines and just kind of diving into them. At the start of the show I kind of went through all my lines and just looked up words that I didn’t know and kind of dived into the context of like what she’s actually saying to help me be able to portray her better.”
Longman says that tickets cost $4 for students and $6 for adults over the age of 18, and can be bought online on the high school’s website or at the door. She confirms that the show is rated PG and cautions parents/guardians about bringing young children because there will be mild language used by performers. The production is taking place at the high school auditorium, 801 Nile Kinnick Drive South, in Adel on Friday and Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 2pm. To purchase tickets, click here.
