It’s the first Greene County boys’ soccer match of the season today at 5:30 p.m. for the varsity Rams at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The contest will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Grand View Christian of Des Moines provides the opposition as Chad Black debuts as the head coach and Chad Schwander appears for the first time as the assistant.
Greene County went 11-3 last season while the Thunder went 1-13 and they dropped their last 13 matches including a 10-0 Ram victory a season ago. The Thunder scored just four goals last season while allowing 65 goals. The Rams may have some questions of their own about who will score goals after 2024 graduate Gesser Gutierres put the ball in the net 49 times in just 11 contests. Four year starter in goal Gabe Ebersole also graduated, as did other starters. Only three players return who consistently started for the Rams last season, but several others who contributed are also back.
