Greene County High School is going to be represented at the State Leadership Conference, hosted by the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
Payton Wadsworth is a senior and has been a member of the Greene County Chapter of FBLA since it started last year. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio this is the first time she is competing at the state conference and will be going up against other students in one category: Accounting I. She talks about why she chose that area to compete in.
“I like accounting. With FBLA you like graphic design, you like presentations, you like spreadsheet applications, you like doing these technical ‘know hows.’ You have to have a passion for it, you have to really like numbers, (and) that kind of scene of meeting new people, learning new things and just being the presence of people who like to talk about the same things as you.”
Wadsworth also participated in the district contest this past December where she finished first in Spreadsheet Applications and Entrepreneurship, and third in Personal Finance. She explains that she wants to be an accountant for her career and eventually establish her own business and so she thought being involved with FBLA was a valuable way to learn more about how to do that. The state conference takes place in Cedar Rapids from March 30th-April 1st.
