Chad Black is now the boys’ soccer head coach for the Greene County Rams and Chad Schwander is the assistant. Black moves up from assistant to head coach after Carl Behne stepped aside several weeks ago. Schwander is coaching for Greene County for the first time following years of success on the Youth level.
Behne and Black started the Rams’ program in 2018 and had more wins than losses every season, which included teams qualifying for three State Tournaments. There was no season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. In addition, the Rams have won at least one contest in the post season every year the postseason has been held since the program began. No other Greene County team has had that kind of success in its first six seasons of existence.
A number of standout players graduated last season, but several starters and letter winners return. Although March 17 was the first official practice date for soccer in Iowa high schools, this week is Spring Break at Greene County, so practice begins in earnest on March 24 for the Rams.
