Strong winds are continuing to cause issues in certain portions of Greene County.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio US Highway 30 west of Glidden to Carroll is closed due to the several inches of snowfall and drifting snow. He says there is a semi-tractor and trailer that had the strong winds push the trailer into the ditch and is blocking the eastbound lane of Highway 30 just west of Scranton. He adds that over ten vehicles have been reported to be in the ditch, mostly in northern Greene County and there continues to be several households without power, mainly in the city of Churdan and some in the city of Paton. According to Midland Power Cooperative at 5:50pm, there were about 234 customers without power in the county.

Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says the northwest portion of the county was hit the hardest with the blizzard conditions and lots of snowfall. He states that Secondary Roads crews started around 1pm today and are working a little bit through 6pm tonight to continue to make the county roads travelable. Weiss notes that the Secondary Roads crews stopped occasionally whenever there was zero visibility for safety reasons. He adds that plow trucks will start again at 5am tomorrow morning and the maintainers will begin at 6am on the gravel roads.

Williams advises if someone is stuck in a ditch to call the law enforcement center non-emergency number if it is not an emergency, to report where they are. He adds that he and the other deputies are having issues traveling in their patrol vehicles, so he asks for patience for someone to rescue them if needed. The non-emergency number for the law enforcement center is 515-386-2136.
