With the first funnel of the 2025 Iowa Legislative Session having passed already, and the second funnel coming up, legislators are working through bills coming through the two chambers.
The first funnel advanced bills that had made it through sub-committee and committee in at least one chamber, with those that haven’t no longer being considered. The second funnel will look at bills that have passed through one chamber and have made it through sub-committee and committee in the other. Representative for District 23 Ray Sorensen says that there are a few topics he can think of that would be big discussion pieces for the current week, and shares his thoughts with Raccoon Valley Radio on what they are.
“I expect we’ll be diving into education funding pretty heavily. There’s a push to increase per-pupil spending, but there’s also debate on how to balance that with other budget priorities. So that’ll likely take center stage. Another big one would probably be health care. We’ve got some proposals floating around about Medicaid expansion and telehealth services that are starting to gain traction. I think those discussions are going to heat up.”
Sorensen adds that he looks forward to working on whatever does come up to help the people of Iowa as best he can.
