An apartment in Perry is deemed a total loss after a fire Monday evening.
Perry Fire Chief Grason Hill tells Raccoon Valley Radio, the fire department was paged out to an apartment complex at 5:15pm, in the 2800 block of Eastern Avenue. After being the first firefighter on scene, Hill says there were visible flames coming from the kitchen of the apartment and smoke emitting from the front entrance. Hill states that a crew of six firefighters entered, lots of black smoke bellowed out, but that the fire was extinguished within ten minutes.
Hill explains that the individual who rents the unit was not at home during the fire, as she had stepped out for a few minutes to deliver food to a family member. He says upon further investigation, he believes the fire was electrical related and it appears to have started in the northwest corner of the apartment. He adds that while no one was hurt at the scene, one firefighter was later taken to a hospital with an unknown health issue. Hill says the Perry Police Department and Dallas County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene of the fire.
