Perry soccer is just over two weeks away from their first match. The Bluejays return one of the top goal scorers in 2A this season, Jacobo Cerna-Gomez. Fresh off a 26 goal season, the junior will look to lead a talented Perry squad. The Bluejays fell in the semifinals of the 2A State Tournament to Assumption 1-0.
Cerna accounted for 63 point last year and has a total of 38 goals so far in his varsity career. He was named All Heart of Iowa Conference, 1st Team All State, and All Iowa as a sophomore. The forward has been a menace his first two years and is poised for a tremendous junior campaign. Coach Overla is happy to have him back. “His ceiling is is pretty high. You know, one thing about Jacobo too that I think people need to realize is that their opportunities last year for him and instead he was looking to you know to allow other people to score so he can get an assist. You know, I always tell him you know we got to make other people dangerous, too.”
The Bluejays open the season at ADM on March 31.
