The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has opened applications for family farms to receive Century or Heritage Farm designation.
According to IDALS, the program was created in partnership with the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation to honor families that have owned and worked their farms for 100 years and 150 years respectively. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says that the Century and Heritage Farms showcase the strength and perseverance of Iowa farmers and agriculture. IDALS instructs eligible families who want to be considered for Century or Heritage Farm status that the applicants must submit with a postmark by no later than June 1. A ceremony honoring the 2025 Century and Heritage Farm families will be held on August 14th in the Livestock Pavilion at the Iowa State Fair.
