Paton-Churdan High School sophomore Trevon Keely won the Class 1A high jump on Thursday at the Iowa Association of Track Coaches State Indoor Meet. The event was held on the Iowa State University Campus in Ames inside the Lied Student Recreation Center. Keely won the competition by six inches as he cleared the bar at six feet, seven inches, in a field of 26 jumpers, and that’s a new 1A meet record! He had officials move the bar up two inches to 6′ 9″ and although he missed all three attempts, Keely was close to clearing the bar at that height. The win was worth 10 team points for the Rockets. Six-seven is the Blue Standard for the Drake Relays, so in about six weeks, he will be jumping against the best from Iowa’s other three classes.

Kory Jeschke is the head coach of the Rockets. This is is first high school track & field coaching job, so Keely is his first State Champion, indoors or out. Keely also scored a point in the long jump with an eighth place finish at 18′ 11″. He was twelfth in the 60 meter dash at 7.40 seconds.

The highest placing event for the Greene County Rams in the Class 2A portion of the meet was the 4 x 400 meter relay. The Rams were seventh in 3:37.95 with senior Nicholas Stream, junior Drew Wolterman, sophomore Zach Stalder, and senior Noah Hinote. Those were the only two points the Rams scored.

Greene County is scheduled to have a number of girls participating today in the girls’ IATC Indoor Championships in Class 2A.
