The Greene County Lamb Producers Annual Banquet and Auction is taking place tomorrow.

Steve Karber is with the Lamb Producers and says the event will take place at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds with doors opening at 6:30pm and the meal of a leg of lamb and sides that are provided by the Lidderdale Country Store will follow. Karber states that there will be some entertainment along with the presentation of plaques for the winners of last year’s county fair sheep show.

“We had about 100 lambs in our county fair. So we had a lot of different classes and that sort of thing, a lot of kids involved. So we like to recognize them and send them to keep coming back. They get a plaque that’s a picture of them with their project at the fair. That’s put into a display by Muir’s Embroidery and it’s something they can take home and keep.”

Karber notes that next comes the auction with various items from people to bid on throughout the evening, including the major items with the four main trophies that will be awarded at this year’s county fair: Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb, Supreme Champion Ewe and Community Lamb Barn Champion with a bigger plaque that a business can have on display and will then present that to this year’s recipients at the county fair.

Karber says all of the proceeds from this yearly fundraiser goes back to the youth and the promotion of lamb. He illustrates that they give scholarships, funding to continue to provide lambs to 4-H’ers who can’t afford to keep an animal with the Community Lamb Barn Project and for the Greene County Fair Board project to install a new photo background.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from any Lamb Producers or at the door.
