
A Paton man has been arrested for alleged arson and attempted murder.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says at 2:09pm Tuesday, dispatch was notified from a victim who claimed he was stabbed in the 300 block of State Street in Paton and was headed to the Greene County Medical Center. Williams states the victim then received a call from the alleged male that stabbed him saying that he was going to light his house on fire. Deputies responded at 2:33pm and confirmed that the house was on fire and that the suspect had left the scene.
Williams says later on deputies located the suspect’s vehicle on U Avenue and 185th Street and tried to stop it, but the vehicle fled. Deputies chased the suspect back to the 300 block of State Street in Paton and were able to place him under arrest. Twenty-eight-year-old Devin Hackfort was charged with a Class B Felony for attempted murder, a Class C Felony for second degree arson, two Class D Felonies for assault on persons in certain occupations and an aggravated misdemeanor for first degree harassment. Williams adds that the State Fire Marshall’s Office has been involved and investigated the fire incident.
