
Three of AC/GC Charger’s boys basketball senior starters were named to their All Substate Team.
Jathan South, Noah Kading and Payton Policky were all named to the Substate 8 Tournament Team. South started in all 25 of the team’s games, going 47.8% from the field on 162 of 339 shooting, 27.1% from beyond the arch on 26 of 96 shooting, and 75.4% from the charity stripe on 126 of 167 shooting (3rd in Class 1A for free throws made 4th in made per game, 2nd in attempts, 3rd in attempts per game). He also collected 22 offensive and 93 defensive rebounds for a total of 115, 67 assists, 48 steals, 25 blocks and 476 points. South averaged 4.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.9 steals, one block, an assist to turnover ratio of 0.91 and 19 points per game.
Kading also started in all 25 of the team’s games, shooting 45.2% from the field by making 123 of 272 shots, 25% from beyond the arch by making 19 of 76 three pointers, and 65.4% from the charity stripe by making 83 of 127 free throws. He recorded 35 offensive and 90 defensive rebounds for a total of 125, 139 assists, 51 steals, 20 blocks and 348 points. Kading averaged five rebounds, 5.6 assists, 2 steals, 0.8 blocks, an assist to turnover ratio of 5.15 (4th in Class 1A) and 13.9 points per game.
Policky was the last of the players who started in all 25 games, shooting 50.7% from the field on 139 of 274 shooting, 20.5% from beyond the arch by making eight of 39 three pointers, and 63% from the charity stripe, making 58 of 92 free throws. He was the only Charger to record triple digits in both rebound categories, tallying 126 offensive (2nd in Class 1A, tied for 3rd among all classes) and 212 defensive rebounds (3rd in Class 1A) for a total of 338 (1st in Class 1A, 4th among all classes), along with 33 assists, 35 steals, 14 blocks and 344 points. Policky averaged 13.5 rebounds (3rd in Class 1A), 1.3 assists, 1.4 steals, 0.6 blocks, an assists to turnover ratio of 0.75 and 13.8 points per game. He was able to maintain a double double average the entire season.
