A student in the Perry School District is being investigated after an alleged shooting threat.

According to the Perry Police Department, they received a phone call from a concerned parent relating to a sixth grade student that allegedly made a threat to shoot up the school on Wednesday. Sources say that the parent told law enforcement that their child, along with other students, overheard the conversation from the sixth grader. The police department opened an investigation in which they spoke with the sixth grader, who confirmed that they did make the alleged threat, but assured officers that they were joking.

According to the department, officers then searched the residence where the sixth grader lives for firearms and did not find any in the home, and that the parents don’t have access to any weapons. Officers also learned that the same student made similar threats back in December, which was deemed not credible at the time. The department states that due to the seriousness of the threat and the fact that it has been mentioned twice, the sixth grader is being charged with one count of threat of terrorism, a Class D Felony and will be taken into the Dallas County Juvenile Court Services. The Perry Police Department says they are committed to protecting the community and take all threats seriously. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
