Today is the FFA District Contest and Greene County High School is hosting.
Greene County FFA Advisor Raelyn Harris says they hosted Sub-Districts in 2021 following the covid pandemic, but that organizing the District contest is a much larger task. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio she is inspired by the support from the students, teachers, parents and community members that have stepped up to ensure today’s success. She points out that over 50 judges are traveling from across the state and nearly 50 student volunteers in FFA and other activities are assisting the event.
Even with another large competitive event happening with District Individual Speech Contest, Harris is grateful for the accommodations that the judges have made to adjust their schedules to allow students to be at both today as well. Some of the specific donations and volunteerism that Harris acknowledges are the Greene County Booster Club managing the concession stand with assistance from the Greene County Pork Producers and the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association, Coca-Cola in Atlantic for donating bottles of water, Home State Bank for sponsoring meals for the judges and the parents for providing snacks and breakfast for the volunteers.
