The student-run restaurant at Greene County High School may look a bit different this year to those who are involved, but for the public, great service continues to be churned out.

Julie Kennedy is the instructor for Ram Restaurant as it is in its 47th year, but for the first time in several years, the curriculum is back to being on semesters. Kennedy tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the students have had to plan more days this semester and because the pre-requisites before a student can be in Ram Restaurant are happening simultaneously now versus when the school year was in trimesters, less students are taking the restaurant class.

However, she says everyone has adapted well as they continue to serve food to the public three days per week, Tuesdays through Thursdays from 11:30am-12:30pm. She talks about her favorite part of teaching Ram Restaurant is seeing students grow as people.

“They come in so tentative and unknowing. And by the end they have a good knowledge of safety and sanitation (and) how a restaurant works. They definitely can cook for themselves, but they also could cook for someone else. Just seeing them blossom is just one of my favorite things.”

Kennedy requests for people to notify them at least one week ahead of time of when they would like a meal. She points out that grocery shopping for the upcoming week happens on Fridays, with the prep done by the students on Mondays. Each meal is $12 and carry-outs are available, but do not include a beverage. Click here to see the full menu for the semester.
