A bill regarding voters’ political affiliation before major election steps is currently making its way through the Iowa House of Representatives.

District 23 Representative Ray Sorensen says the bill would make it so that voters must be registered with the party they want to be affiliated with at least 30 days before a caucus or primary election. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio why he is in support of this bill.

“House File 353 aims to regulate switching political parties before these events. It is seen as a reasonable step to prevent gamemanship or last-minute shifts that undermine voter intent, and principle. I’m for keeping our elections fair and reflective of committed party members.”

Sorensen mentions that the bill would maintain the integrity of Iowa’s caucuses and primary elections, which is especially important for the caucuses, which the state and its residents are so proud of.
